What is a hair salon?
In the old days they would have been called barber shops for men and a beauty salon for women. Today, for the most part, they are simply hair salons, businesses where customers can go to get their hair cut and styled.
Typically, a hair salon consists of a reception desk, a waiting area, and multiple “workstations” beyond that desk where multiple hair stylists work on customers. This has been the business model, in the United States, since 1900.
About 15-20 years ago, the business model began to change. A new idea hit the market, and that idea consisted of shrinking down the traditional business model; instead of hair salons being in a building, this new model had small hair salons, one or two rooms, operated by one or two hair professionals, and many of those salons occupying salon suites in one central building.
