The term “salon and suites” has taken on a new meaning these days, a transformation if you will, and the change is important for those who have always dreamed of owning a beauty salon, nail salon, hair salon, or any other beauty/health related salon or spa. This article, then, is an attempt to cut through the confusion. Consider it your ultimate primer for all things related to salon ownership in today’s world and beyond.

We are Hill Country Salon Suites, serving the Georgetown area with twenty-six salon suite rental opportunities. Call us at 512-380-2500 for more information about our current rental prices and salon suite availability.

A look at traditional salon and suites.

Traditionally there were beauty salon owners, hair salon owners, or even barber shop owners.  The owner of the salon either purchased a retail building or paid a monthly lease on a retail building, an expensive process and then paid for furniture, for tools of the trade, for signage and utilities and the cost of goods sold.  This old business model was a rich man’s game, requiring sufficient capital to either purchase a building or even to simply lease a building and then pay for everything needed in a salon.

The ”employees” were usually independent contractors who rented a chair, or salon booth, and were then paid a commission for every dollar they earned for the salon owner.

In this old business model, the words “salon” and “suite” were basically interchangeable, and the words “salon booth” or “salon chair” referred, mostly, to the working station “manned” by the actual hair stylist or beauty professional.

New meanings for old terms.

Salon and suites

That all changed with the introduction of a new business model, one where one could simply rent a salon suite (as in a single room) in a building filled with other salon suites, and in each salon suite you will find small salons owned by people who have modest investment capital.

In these new buildings, one being our own Hill Country Salon Suites, you might find Carla’s Hair Magic next door to The Nail Pros next door to the Georgetown Massage Therapy Suite, and each of those businesses are owned by former independent contractors who now can afford to open their own salons.  This, then, is a great chance for someone with very little investment capital to actually own a business, and a great opportunity for the building owner, with constant rental income flowing in from the successful mini-salons.
